Keegan, a matured age ruckman was rookie drafted by the Gold Coast Suns at the end of the 2014 season after a terrific year for the South Adelaide Football Club in the SANFL competition, which included him winning the club Best & Fairest.
An outstanding sportsman as a junior, Keegan had to make the tough choice between a promising Basketball or Football career. However unlike many before him, Keegan made his decision much later in life after turning down a few offers to go to America on a College Basketball Scholarship, before shifting his entire focus to footy in his 20’s.
No doubt querying his decision at times, Keegan’s choice of AFL was justified when he made his senior debut for the Suns in 2015 during their Round 9 against the reigning Premiers, Hawthorn. Keegan added a further two senior games to his tally before he was struck down with a blood clot in his arm which was a scary time for him and his family. However after a few bouts of surgery and medication, Keegan bounced back to full health in 2016, playing 8 games for the Suns in what was a tough year for the club.
At the conclusion of the 2017 season, Keegan was unfortunately delisted by the Suns as part of wide sweeping list changes. Keegan headed back to his SANFL Club, South Adelaide where he was named Captain and realistic that his AFL dream would now be over. Enjoying a solid season for South Adelaide, Keegan was contacted by West Coast at the conclusion of the season enquiring whether he would be keen to pursue his AFL ambitions again via the 2018 Pre-Season Supplemental Selection Period meaning he could be placed on the list as of 1st December. Without hesitation, Keegan agreed and is looking forward to making an impact at the reigning Premiers in 2019.
