Flynn Appleby

Date of Birth: 21/01/1999

Club: Collingwood FC

Games (Goals): 9 (0)

Recruited From: 2017 NAB Rookie Draft, from Greater Western Victorian Rebels (TAC Cup)

Flynn enjoyed a solid season for the Greater Western Victorian Rebels where he was mainly used as a defender.

Having finished his high school at the end of 2016, Flynn utilised the year working at the Football Club in various roles, along with working at the Ballarat Yacht Club, as well as focussing on developing his Football in a hope to be drafted.

Finishing the season particularly strong, Flynn made an appearance for the North Ballarat Roosters in the VFL where he played a terrific shut down role on Collingwood's Kayle Kirby. This no doubt caught the recruiters attention, as Flynn went on to play critical roles against various TAC Cup opponents including key position and small forwards.

After not receiving a State or National Combine invitation at the end of his U/18 season, Flynn did not give up hope and attended the Rookie Me Combine in the hope that someone would call out his name at the Drafts. Fortunately Collingwood swooped in the Rookie Draft and Flynn did not disappoint, playing 9 games in his first season before a hamstring injury ruled him out for the remainder of the season. Whilst it was extremely disappointing for Flynn as he missed the chance to play in the Grand Final, he has taken a great deal of confidence from his debut season.
